This is where the estuary channel splits at the downstream end of Alney Island, which is just downstream of Gloucester. The island is a nature reserve and Lower Parting is a great place to see estuary bird life, and also to watch the Severn Bore. Here there is little inter-tidal area in the channel but the river level still rises and falls with the tide.
